Taser Bill in Michigan
Whats your thoughts? I'm personally hoping it passes.
Bill gives security guards power to wield TASERs
Lansing schools among sites where stun guns approved

A little-noticed bill that would let more people use TASERs and stun guns in Michigan is awaiting Gov. Jennifer Granholm's likely signature, though critics hope she wields her veto pen.
The legislation approved by the state Senate 30-7 last week and passed unanimously by the House in September would exempt detention facilities and private security officers at some hospitals and malls from a ban against using stun guns. Police officers and others in law enforcement have been able to carry the weapons since 2002.
A 2004 law lets county jail officers use TASERs, but the latest bill was introduced because officials felt city lockup centers were inadvertently overlooked.

I don't see a problem with it.

While I don't think they're a good tool for self-defense, I don't see why they need to be restricted at all. Let anybody carry them, and lock people up forever if they use them criminally.

While I recognize stun guns are less-than-lethal weapons, there is the potential for seriously bodily injury (perhaps death) with misuse. Placing them in the hands of untrained and/or undisciplined people would only lead to problems. If the general public is allowed to carry stun guns, I would sanction some sort of permit or licensing; maybe piggy backing it on a gun permit. Said permit might not require the citizen to under prescribed training but it would aid in facilitating some level accountability, should the weapon be misused.
