Tamale Store Robbed - Thieves Took Tamales, Left Cash

Thieves hit the Hot Damn Tamales store in Dallas Thursday morning, and made off with about 75 dozen tamales.

Store workers left after midnight, and the thieves broke in shortly after. Surveillance video showed someone opening the refrigerator and taking as many tamales as he could. What the thieves took is almost as unusual as what they left.

“When I arrived here at 6:15 [a.m.], I found the door shattered, and all the change in the cash register,” store owner Ione Stavron said.

Now that the robbery is behind them, the store employees have to catch up on orders. Crews will work around the clock to have all the orders ready on time, Stavron said.

“They want tamales, we’re going to give it to them,” she said.

Despite the precarious situation Stavron’s store faces, she took the robbery as a compliment.

“We feel like our tamales are so well-known that they must come and get them any way they can get them,” she said.

Stavron said that this is not her store’s first break-in. The same thing happened last New Year’s Eve.

Those must be some good tamales!!!

Okay, I was confused....the title makes it sound like they broke in to take the tamales, but that they left money to pay for them.

I would think they only have coinage in the registers.
