A pretty tough 911 call
I can't find it in any of the news wires, but CNN had a story on this morning from, I believe Charleston, where the mom was dispatching when her son's friend called to say that he'd been shot. They played the 911 call on CNN as Mom was talking her son's friend through CPR and talking to her son. That must have been brutal.

I can't even begin to imagine how horrible that must have been for her. Ick.

And I’ll deal with the hate.

Now, I know this is gonna seem cold, but here it is...
Why did a cop skimp on the weapon safety training of their child. I have a 10 1/2 year old daughter and 9 year old son and they have both been taught basic weapons safety...
rule 1 don't fucking touch ANY weapon, rule 2 if you find a weapon or your friend is messing with a weapon tell an adult IMMEDIATELY, rule 3 Treat ANY weapon as if it is loaded, rule 4 if your friend picks up a weapon RUN AWAY!, rule 5 don't fucking touch ANY weapon!
On the topic, that would be a seriously shitty situation.

I cannot find the actual news article anywhere to post it, but I believe that the kid was about seventeen and got hit in a drive-by shooting. Anyone located in that area hear of this who can confirm it? I mean, just because it was on CNN doesn't necessarily mean it's legitimate.

Well, if that is the case I can see where any training she imparted would have done no good. It's definitely a bad situation. I won't even venture to guess how I would handle it. I will say that I would go 'hunting' later...

One of our dispatchers was on duty when there was a shooting at her son's school.
She said knowing it was our beat, and there was an SRO at the school helped her deal with the stress.
