There's Something Wrong with the System
One of my pet peeves in the educational system, at least the one I work in, is that we TEACH kids they can get by with almost anything. We give them chance after chance after chance, with minimal and/or ineffectual consequences.
It's long been my belief that our school systems mirror sociatal trends and thinking. We're afraid to discipline...afraid to take a stand...afraid of the repercussions of standing by a disciplinary decision. It's too political anymore...and IMHO...our children are ultimately paying the price.
With media what it is, the kinds of exposure kids have in today's world, and an increasing lack of discipline, we're seeing children with the capacity to commit some very ugly crimes. When I read something like this...I am angered, but no longer surprised.
13-year-olds in court on assault allegations

Two 13-year-old boys will be in court Friday, accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl and videotaping it.
The girl’s mother told police about the tape last week, which led to the investigation, Lincoln Police Officer Katherine Finnell said.
On Tuesday, the two boys were taken to the Lancaster County Juvenile Detention Center on felony allegations of sexual assault of a child. Police believe one of the boys sexually assaulted a now 5-year-old girl sometime last year while the other boy, the girl’s brother, videotaped them.
Finnell said on another occasion the victim and another 4-year-old girl were made to simulate sex acts, and a 2-year-old boy was seen naked and touching himself.
It was alleged to have occurred at the home of one of the boys near 30th and Holdrege streets.
She said it was unclear if the boys were babysitting the children at the time.
“I think that all the circumstances involving this one will be checked into,” Finnell said.
Among other things, she said, police will investigate when the assault took place, where the parents were at the time, if either of the boys had been victims of sexual assault and what they may be seeing in the home.
Both of the boys already are on probation in juvenile court. One was sentenced to probation in December for burglary and criminal mischief. The other was sentenced to probation in August for burglary and assault.
Finnell said it was unclear what steps will be taken against them. The matter has been turned over to the Lancaster County Attorney’s office.
The boys are set to be in court today. Because of their age, the matter could be taken up in juvenile court, where they could be under the supervision of the court until they turn 19.
In adult court, sexual assault of a child comes with a possible sentence of one to 50 years in prison.

Okay, let me see if I understand this. Two 13-year-old boys are on probation, both for burglary, one for assault, one for criminal mischief. The parents of one of the boys also have a 4-year-old daughter, and they leave her in the care of these two little darlings. I can almost see that, since neither of the boys has been convicted of a sex crime and one is a sibling, but still. . . I would not entrust my own child to their care. Poor judgement on the parents' part.
But tell me how you see this particular case as a failure on the part of the system? Are you saying the boys should have gotten more than probation for the burglary and/or assault charges? Without the specifics of the case it is hard to tell what punishment is appropriate. I'd also like to know if there were any warning signs that the boys would progress to sexual assault.
It is heartbreaking that the little girl had to endure that. If it were my daughter, I'd be sorely tempted to fill those boys with lead."Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill." - My Dad

No, what I think is trying to be said is the fact that the juvenile system in this country blows ass. Which it does. I have seen kids get away with a myriad of special crimes because of moronic liberal assed judges. These kids should be punished and the parents should be punished as well. My folks divorced when I was 6 both worked a few jobs, I grew up quick having to take care of my brother who was 5 years younger than me. Did I turn out bad? Did I do bad shit? Yes and no. I did bad things that most kids did anyways. I was still disciplined at home. I see it all the time when these little shits get caught with a gun and so on, the parents could careless, for that they should be jailed as well. Just my opinion.

I think Singapore has the right idea... Flog the sorry little punks until their behinds bleed.
If someone woulda done that on previous crap they did, then they probably wouldn't have pulled the sexual assault against the child.
There's also probably something going on in that house beyond that, which the mother & boyfriend or whatever need to be flogged for, too.

I just saw this as a prime example.
They were on probation....obviously they didn't learned anything. I just feel sometimes, the laxness in our system allows juvenile offenders to continue doing what they do over and over....chance after chance after chance.
