Club Barman Stabbed Man - Claim

A Club-goer bled to death in the street as police and ambulance staff were met with hostility outside a city night-spot, a jury heard.



Leon Tyrell, 23, of Arnold, was stabbed in the neck in the Cuba Libre nightclub in Greyhound Street, Nottingham city centre, in the early hours of Sunday, July 2, last year.

Barman Gairian Robinson, 26, denies the murder of Mr Tyrell.

His trial at Nottingham Crown Court heard today that Mr Tyrell had gone to the club after watching the England World Cup match against Portugal, on Saturday, July 1.

Robinson had been to the club's cellar to fetch boxes of bottles of beer when there was an incident where someone allegedly pretended to take some of the bottles he was carrying.

Prosecutors say Robinson believed Mr Tyrell was responsible, and allegedly picked up knives from the bar and attacked Mr Tyrell.

Ten separate knife injuries were inflicted.

Then Mr Tyrell left the club and collapsed outside.

When police tried to approach Mr Tyrell, one officer was pushed and grabbed by a group of men. There were no signs of life when the officers did get to Mr Tyrell.

The court heard an ambulance crew held back until police had arrived and they were subjected to some hostility from the crowd.

Meanwhile, inside the club, the court heard the defendant was attacked with glasses and bottles.

The officers refered to being pushed and grabbed that was me and some members of the team I work with.

This job was the first murder where I attened the scene while the incident was still in progress.

There were batons and fists flying everywhere but only 4 arrests out of the whole incident (including the suspect on trial) so hopefully those who got their cheap shots in while we tried to save the guys life got some summary justice at the time. (although sh1t bags like that always come again).
