Man Accused Of Posing As Police Officer, Making "Arrests"

Police say Henry Terry stopped drivers for traffic violations using the same kind of car often used by real officers.

Hauppauge, NY -- He had the badge, the uniform, the handcuffs, even a car with lights and a siren. But he was no police officer.

Prosecutors in a New York suburb say he acted like one, even stopping drivers for traffic violations, and patrolling Long Island and New York City in a Ford Crown Victoria, the type of car often used by police.

The 24-year-old man entered a plea of not guilty to charges of grand larceny and impersonating a police officer.

His lawyer denies any wrongdoing, saying Henry Terry never tried to hurt or threaten anyone.

But prosecutors say he convinced the owner of an SUV to give him the vehicle for use in a supposed undercover investigation of a white supremacist group. He allegedly swapped the car for another one and $600 in cash.

They also say Terry would ask the people he pulled over to give him a cash payment in exchange for their release.

It's not clear just how long this may have been going on.

Edit: For fun, you can always go laugh at the crown vics on www.cardomain.com, and possibly explain to them why decomissioned police cars aren't the best cars ever.
