FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fort Worth police said they have arrested a man who fled with an estimated $20,000 after a robbery Thursday morning at a Wal-Mart.
Police said at about 7 a.m., Brian Washington, 20, walked into the Wal-Mart on the 6500 block of Meadowbrook Drive, displayed a stun gun and demanded that the store manager hand over a payroll bag.
Witnesses said the manager became frightened and ran off, with Washington chasing closely behind. [
why didn't the manger just clobber him with the bag?] The manager dropped the bag while running and Washington picked it up and ran out of the store, police said.

The manager was carrying the bag toward an office at the time of the robbery.
Officials said Washington then jumped into a waiting Kia Rio and fled the scene.
Police said an alert customer with a cell phone followed the getaway car from the store and was able to provide police with a vehicle description, license plate number and direction of travel.
The witness followed the vehicle to the Bentley Square Apartments, just a few blocks from the Wal-Mart store. Officers arrived at the scene as the vehicle was leaving the property and detained the driver, Edward Crane, 23.
None of the stolen property or other evidence was located inside the car, police said.Last edited by TXCharlie; 02-09-07 at 10:28 AM.

The amount of cash doesn't seem out of line - 200 people with $100 average - wouldn't take long. Even with many using credit and debt cards it wouldn't take long to get up to that total. Why a manager is still walking around with a bag is the curious part for me.
