Man watches porn, as neighbor kicks in the door demanding to know where the girl is

According to the police report, officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of North Main Street after a man kicked in his neighbor's door and threatened him with a sword. The caller said the subject lived downstairs with his mother.
Police made contact with the neighbor, a 39-year-old man, who told them he heard a woman screaming from upstairs and feared she was being sexually assaulted.
The subject said he grabbed the 39-inch sword, went upstairs and kicked in the door to investigate. He repeatedly asked his neighbor "Where is she?" and made him open a closet, and searched the apartment looking for a woman in distress.
The victim told his neighbor, and later showed police the evidence, that the noise came from a pornographic movie he was watching.
According to the police report, the subject said he got the sword from his father, who had it in the armed forces. There was German writing etched on the blade of the sword.
The victim said he was fearful for his safety and was afraid the he would be stabbed during the incident.
Police are seeking charges of second-degree reckless endangerment of safety, criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct against the 39-year-old Oconomowoc man.

I really hope they drop the charges they're thinking about for him, he was just looking out for somebody else's well-being! Hopefully that'll teach the other idiot to turn his damn porn down in the future...

I hope those charges don't get very far. I suppose the police officers may have felt compelled to file the charges anyway, since it could actually still be an assault if the guy did it just because he got annoyed with the TV volume... But if he reasonably believed a 3rd party was in danger, and took action, then 3rd party defense is the same as self-defense.

Around these parts, a sword is an illegal weapon on its face, whereas a long gun or shotgun isn't... So I wonder how much that factored into their decision to file charges.

Next time I bet the porn aficionado turns his TV down.

I don't get that. Similarly I don't get why I now can get a concealed carry permit that allows me to carry one of the previously banned weapons, but it doesn't apply to others.

Except as otherwise provided in this section, any person who carries a weapon or weapons concealed on or about his or her person such as a revolver, pistol, bowie knife, dirk or knife with a dirk blade attachment, brass or iron knuckles, or any other deadly weapon commits the offense of carrying a concealed weapon.
(2) This section does not apply to a person who is the holder of a valid permit issued under the Concealed Handgun Permit Act if the concealed weapon the defendant is carrying is a handgun as defined in section 3 of this act.

After getting a CCW permit the state still wouldn't trust me with a dirk in my coat.

Not sure about swords here.
