DUBLIN, Ohio -- You can still get tomatoes on your sandwiches at Wendy's restaurants, but you'll have to make a special request.

The short-term policy began in late December because of crop damage from hurricanes in Florida.

Wendy's spokesman Bob Bertini said the company hasn't been able to secure tomatoes with the quality and quantity that the Dublin company would like.

Bertini said the tomato shortage could end in a few weeks when new crops become available. The company uses about 85 million pounds of tomatoes a year.

McDonald's officials said the fast-food leader -- based in Oak Brook, Ill. -- is not experiencing a shortage.

Spokeswoman Lisa Howard said McDonald's planned well. She does not expect the damage in Florida to have an effect

But a Freedom of Information request has unlodged a police report that, The Smoking Gun can now reveal, shows that a "LOOGIE" was the unwanted ingredient. According to a police report, a copy of which you'll find below, Stephen Bullion, 19, admitted to the clamming after being confronted by the trooper, who only spotted the phlegm after eating half of his "roast turkey, ranch 'n bacon wrap." Bullion, pictured at right, told the trooper (whose name was redacted from the report) that he did not add the loogie because the customer was a cop, but rather because he arrived at the drive-thru window as workers were preparing to close the fast-food joint. Mo. Officer's Hamburger Laced With Meth

Desloge, Missouri (KMOV) – A criminal investigation is underway to determine how an illegal drug turned up in a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder.

The probe focuses on the small town of Desloge, Missouri.


It was the day after Christmas and a Desloge, Missouri police officer bought a Quarter Pounder with cheese at a McDonald's restaurant. He drove back to the police station and chomped down on his burger.


That is when he discovered a foreign substance on the burger. The substance was a white powder and a lab test conducted by the Missouri Highway Patrol forensic laboratory found it contained methamphetamine.


Police in Desloge and the surrounding counties have bust hundreds of meth labs every year, making the area one of the most notorious in the country for methamphetamine.


Police Chief James Bullock says investigators have a suspect, a man in his late teens or early twenties who no longer works at the restaurant. The chief says the suspect, who has not been identified, has friends who had trouble with the same officer years ago.


Authorities believe the spiked food was done out of retaliation.


The criminal investigation, now six months old, appears to cold. Police have questioned four people, but the only one called a suspect isn't talking.


McDonald's issued a statement, the storeowner and operator John McCook says, “The safety and well-being of our customers and employees is always is our top priority. We are fully cooperating with the Desloge Police Department in the investigation of this alleged incident to uncover all the facts. We caution anyone from jumping to any conclusions until all the facts are known.”
