A 55-year-old off-duty officer with the Powder Springs Police Department was killed Friday when his Cadillac Escalade, driving in the wrong direction on the interstate, collided with an ambulance, according to Atlanta Police officer James Polite.
The patient and two crew members on the ambulance were injured, though not seriously, in the early-morning crash on the Downtown Connector, the section of highway through Atlanta where Interstates 75 and 85 merge.
Police identified the driver of the sports utility vehicle as Billy Andrew Morgan. Polite said it was too soon to know if alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident that occurred at 2:50 a.m. near Turner Field.
Cobb said Morgan was driving south in the northbound lanes of the interstate when his Escalade hit the ambulance just south of Fulton Street. The Clayton County ambulance was taking a woman to Grady Memorial Hospital.

This is bad. I can see turning the wrong way onto a one-way street (I've done it, only once though). But I don't see how any sober person could end up going the wrong way on a freeway."I'm not a coward,
I've just never been tested
I'd like to think that if I was,
I would pass"
