A 47-year-old man was killed this morning when he apparently swerved to avoid a raccoon on Campbells Run Road in Robinson and struck another car.
The county medical examiner's office had not yet released the victim's name pending notification of his family.
Robinson police said the man swerved to miss the animal at about 7:40 a.m. and hit a car driven by Mary Nucci, 47, of the Westwood section of Pittsburgh. She wasn't hurt.
WHY swerve to avoid a 3 pound critter when your in a 3500 pound cage???
A monday morning lunatic, disturbed from time to time. Temporary catatonic madman on occasion..
Lightning crashes a new mother cries, her placenta falls to the floor. The angel opens her eyes, the confusion sets in before the doctor can even close the door..

I don't like hitting critters, but when it comes down to it, I will. There was one summer I think I was working on the entire cast of Bambi.

Why do deer run with their tails up? So you can aim for the bullseye.
Brake, move over if its clear, whatever fits the situation, but blindly yanking the wheel is inexcusable. Glad the other driver survived.
Of course this was never covered in Driver's Ed. No, we spent time on things like announcing to your passengers when you're being overtaken by another vehicle.

I assisted the HP on one scene where a 19 or 20 year old girl swerved to avoid a Squirrel and ended up wrapped around a tree. She lived but is now paralyzed from the neck down. It just doesnt make sence to me.

I've hit a raccoon once. It is somewhat of a reflex though, to try avoiding something in the road.
