Drunk Driver Taunts Police In Colorado
(AP) COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Recently released 911 tapes reveal the voice of a man who confessed to authorities that he was driving drunk and dared police to find him.
"Yeah, I'm drunk and driving at the same time heading down south Academy," the man said to the dispatcher. "I called earlier and I still ain't got nothing from you fools."
Colorado Springs, Colo. police said Alexander Craig called 911 at least a half-dozen times during a 2 hour period last Thursday, telling the dispatcher he was driving drunk in a white Ford Escort.
The tapes reveal the man identified as Craig said at one point, "I'm drunk and hammered and giving you guys clues, and you still haven't found me."
When asked his name, the voice said "I don't know. I'm too hammered right now, man."
Police did catch up with Craig after a short pursuit and used a Taser to subdue him.
"Usually people who have been drinking and driving try to avoid the police and not draw attention to themselves," Lt. Rafael Cintron of the Colorado Springs Police said. "This is certainly a first."
He now faces charges of drunken driving, eluding police and resisting arrest.
"There really isn't anything funny about this," Cintron said. "This is somebody behaving extremely irresponsible."
