MINNEAPOLIS -- Muslim cashiers at some Twin Cities Target stores who object to ringing up products that contain pork are being shifted to other positions where they don't need to.

Some Muslim cashiers had declined to scan pork products because doing so would conflict with their religious beliefs. They would ask other cashiers to ring up such purchases, or sometimes customers would scan those items themselves.

Minneapolis-based Target has now offered its local Muslim cashiers who object to handling pork the option of wearing gloves while cashiering, shifting to other positions or transferring to other nearby stores.

A company spokeswoman says it's not an issue at most Target stores in the Twin Cities, and that there's no indication it's an issue elsewhere in Minnesota or nationwide.

If they refuse to ring up a package of bacon, that's refusing to do their job, which is insubordination, which should be reason for dismissal.

folks remember that there are different set of rules for different people.

enough of the hyper-sensitive pc crap. you hire to to a job do it or get another job. how much of this crap can one take. i'm not pc, i'm not sensitive, i'm not officer friendly . there is stuff on my job that i don't want to do but i must, but i'm a gainfully employed, tax paying, law abiding m/w therefore i can't complain but must bend over backwards for everybody else.

Just another excuse to feel persecuted and avoid work at the same time. Target is private business. You don't like their policies? Well, I got a piece of pork you can handle right here. And it's kosher...
