County worker gets $1,000 for stress
March 21, 2007
BY STEVE PATTERSON Staff Reporter
A Cook County employee says an argument with her boss left her so distraught, she suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and wanted taxpayers to foot the bill for thousands of dollars in medical bills and lost wages.
Marie Balestri is instead getting $1,000 for her case, which left her out of work for four months in 2000, records show.
Balestri, who works as a $41,000-a-year court clerk at the Daley Center, filed what Commissioner Earlean Collins called a "frivolous" claim.
Ten board members, though, voted to pay the $1,000, citing expenses incurred in fighting it and expected costs in continuing.
Neither Balestri nor her attorney could be reached for comment.

Since this is in a public area, I won't say what I really think of this person.

Think I could sue my ex for giving me PSTD? He really did, and I still occasionally wake up with nightmares, but somehow I don't think I'd ever collect.
