Jobless Male Londoner Rechristened As Fertility Goddess In Indian State
Ahmedabad, India (AHN) - A jobless man from London, who has a stark resemblance with an ancient Indian goddess of eunuchs, has been rechristened as Prema in the Indian state of Gujarat where he is now living as a fertility goddess.
Steve Cooper, 32, said he was out of work when friends told him he looked like the goddess Bahucharaji - who according to legend castrated her husband because he preferred acting as a woman.
His followers believe Cooper can cure infertility. He lives among 80 eunuchs at the temple, eats a strict vegetarian diet and blesses people who come to visit.
"All my life I didn't fit in," Cooper told Ananova news. "Now I've found my life. I plan to stay for good. I couldn't leave now."
The temple of Bahuchara Mata is located in Shankhalpoor in Gujarat, India and the sacred place is today known as Bahucharaji. Steve says he is much happier at this place now than he was while living in a tiny Tooting flat.
Steve declared, "I love being here. I don't miss anything about Tooting."
