Mom Places Ad on MySpace: Kidnap Son for $500

The mother of a 2-year-old boy was locked up Monday because of an ad she placed online. Bexar County Sheriff's deputies say she solicited strangers to kidnap her son from the boy's father Saturday night. Deputies say the boy's mom posted the kidnapping on her MySpace page. She was willing to pay $500 to get the job done.
"I think it's retarded stealing her own kid when she could have just asked," said the boy's father, Venardo Morales.

The boy's mother is 20-year-old Lisa Gonzales. She has two children with Morales. Venardo, Jr. lives with Morales. His one-year-old brother lives with Gonzales.

Gonzales wanted both children. Deputies say she tried to get custody legally, but then went to the web and posted an ad on her MySpace page.

“She was doing this in a last ditch effort to get her child back," said Russel McWhorter with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Her ad was answered on Saturday by 27-year-old Rosita Ybanez and 31-year-old Reynaldo Galvan. Authorities say the duo arranged to meet with Gonzales at a restaurant, and on Saturday night, they snatched the two-year-old boy from the home of his father.

They took him while he was playing with his dad. Morales tried to stop them.

"I couldn't go after him 'cause he has my kid and if I don't go what's going to happen to my son," said Morales.

Then for $500, the boy was handed over to Gonzales and her aunt at a convenience store a few miles away.

Bexar County sheriff's Sergeant Russell McWhorter says investigators traced the child to Gonzales within a few hours. Deputies returned him to his dad early Easter morning. He was uninjured except for a bruise on his thigh.

The suspects face felony charges of agreeing to abduct a child in exchange for compensation.

Morales says he will now work on getting custody of his other child.
