Driver Killed In High-Speed Chase In NW Indiana
Driver Was From South Suburbs
(CBS) PORTER COUNTY, Ind. A motorist was killed Sunday after leading police in northwest Indiana on a high-speed chase and crashed on I-94 near Chesterton.
The driver of the 2003 Trail Blazer was Rose Marie Hurley, 44 of Mokena, Ill.
The chase started around 6:30 a.m. in Burns Harbor when a police officer responded to a disturbance at a local truck stop and the person involved in the disturbance got into a Chevrolet Trail Blazer and fled the scene, according to Indiana State Police.
The officer followed the vehicle as it entered the eastbound lanes of I-94 at a high rate of speed and then exited the interstate onto southbound Indiana State Highway 49, police said.
After about three miles, the Trail Blazer crossed over into the northbound lanes of Highway 49 then turned around and continued north at a high rate of speed. Chesterton Police and Porter County Sheriff's police joined the chase and officers attempted to use stop sticks to stop the vehicle, but the driver managed to avoid them before re-entering I-94 headed east.
An Indiana State trooper was waiting at a crossover on the interstate and as the Trail Blazer went by, the trooper deployed stop sticks. The vehicle tried to avoid them, but the front and rear tires on the driver's side struck the stop sticks and the driver lost control, police said.
The vehicle rolled over and the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV. The motorist died at the scene from massive head and neck injuries. Toxicology tests are pending.
All lanes of east bound I-94 were temporarily closed for reconstruction of the crash, removal of the car and the victim. Traffic was diverted off onto State Road 49. All lanes were reopened at 10:50 a.m.
Lynwood Police had put out a local dispatch for an attempt to locate for a well-being check on Hurley earlier Sunday morning.

Too bad so sad, at least they didn't kill any innocent people.

I'm not objecting. I wonder again what minor offense this person gave (in this instance) their life for. The toxicology results may shed some light there.
Tip for dumbasses - You can't outrun Motorola. But if you insist on trying, at least use a sedan which isn't so likely to roll.
