A very disturbing rape/murder in Knoxville

In January a young couple in Knoxville was car jacked, kidnapped, bound , gagged, beaten, sodomized, raped, genitally mutilated, poisoned, shot, set on fire, and hacked to pieces.

The barbarians who did this crime have been apprehended and are awaiting trial.

However, this crime never made it in the national media and that is an outrage. We have been treated to the non-stop coverage of Anna Nicole, of Imus, but not a peep from the the major news outlets about this significantly worse event.

The shocking brutality of this crime would suggest that there would be some coverage. But there was not. Not a word in the NY Times, the Washington Post, CNN, NBC, ABC, and on and on

Someone explaine to me how the ones that are going to "party" about this arent racist? If the tables were turned the NAACP, ACLU, and several other groups would be all over this crying foul. The crime itself was horrible enough, but to celebrate it because it was "rich" white kids is just disgusting.

Im outraged by this, where the hell is Jackson and the other activists? Damn bigots make me mad as hell. And they stand up and say there isnt double standards in this country!!

It is no surprise that Jackson, Sharpton, and their followers are not involved with this but where the hell is the media?? I did send e-mail to O'Reilly, Ingraham, Limbaugh, and a lot of others but still I have heard nothing. The talk radio guys have not picked up on it as far as I know, and certainly major media such as the Washingtoin Post have not even mentioned it.

Something is distinctly rotten and that there is a double standard is crystal clear. I can think of no crime more viscious than this one.

Do you remember the James Byrd murder about a decade ago? Byrd was a black man dragged to death by some viscious whites. It was splashed all over the national media as it should have been. The perps were caught, tried, and sentenced to death as they should have been.

That was not enough however. Various black and civil rights group jumped all over Governor George Bush for not punishing these criminals enough. They wanted a Hate Crimes bill. But how much more can they be punished -- they did get a death sentence.

Meanwhile this case is unknown and may well remain unknown.

In the Wichita Massacre the perps were tried and also sentenced to death as they should be, but there was hardly a peep in the National Media. Outragous.

Then, of course there is the case where a radio shock jock called some basketball players "hos". It is all over the media because of the damage done to the girls.

Have you noticed how vehement the press was against the duke lacrosse players, and how quickly that case has disappeared from the news?

You might also google the name Ken Tillery. Tillery was also murdered by dragging, just as James Byrd was murdered. Furthermore it occurred in Jasper Texas, the same town James Byrd was murdered, but a few years later. Tillery, however was white, his killers black, and the story never made a ripple in the news.

The answer to this is simple, TRB. Unless the media can "sensationalize" a story and therefore "buy" the public into a story, they won't touch it. Media knows exactly what is going to sell and what won't. There is no fairness or balance to the media's choice of stories. Honestly, this type of story choosing makes me wonder about some of the conspiracy theories out there.

This lousy crime at least got into Snopes.Com. That is better than nothing I suppose. I rather dislike their analysis of the situation. They might be right but somehow would you not think the shear horror, the mayhem involved in this incident would cause a bit more attention in the national media?
