Officer Hurt After Being Hit By Car During Traffic Stop
WNBC-TV
SYOSSET - A Nassau County police officer is recovering after a car hit him during a traffic stop on the shoulder of the Long Island Expressway. The incident happened just after midnight Thursday morning in Syosset, on the westbound side near the South Oyster Bay Road exit.
Police said Edwin Martinez, of the Highway Patrol Bureau, had pulled someone over when another driver rammed the officer's car, which then crashed into the stopped car.
Police arrested Yookyung Kim, 19, of Bayside, and charged him with driving while intoxicated.
Martinez, a 12-year veteran, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition.
The four people in the car that was originally pulled over were not badly injured.

Another friggin' drunk... figures.
Maybe one day, the States will get serious about curbing drunk driving. ... maybe.
Best wishes and prayers for the officer.

This is why I hate stops on the highway...I try to avoid them at all costs. They usually scare the hell out of me.

To me it isnt as much as the state as it is the judges who allow these idiots to go back out and do it again and again ....
What is it with many judges anyway ? Why is it the cops can do their job but the judges dont have too ???

Rest stops too - A trooper near me wound up in the hospital a few weeks ago after he pulled a DWI over in a rest stop - Then another DWI followed his lights right into the rest stop and ran him over - I posted it in "Officer Down" because the first reports was that he had many broken bones, but those turned out to be just a lot of bruises and an ankle "the size of a grapefruit". Good thing they hit the police car before they hit him!!!
Fucking drunks - A drunk killed my co-worker last year too, so I don't have a lot of sympathy for them.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.
