LSU Student Arrested for Threatening to Kill Sen. Hillary Clinton

An LSU student is in trouble with the Secret Service, and may have set a record at parish prison. The 19-year-old has a $1 million bond on his head. The student is accused of making threats against U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton. Richard Ryan Wargo is in some serious trouble now. Police tell us what started out as talk of setting fires turned into talk of killing presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in Baton Rouge.

It started at LSU, where police tell us Wargo started making threats against Sen. Clinton. The arrest warrant states that Wargo was interested in committing an act of terrorism that would be "a national event." According to the warrant, Richard Wargo first told a classmate he basically wanted to burn down Hillary Clinton's headquarters, to which a classmate replied, "You know that that's only going to make her more popular?" Then, things perhaps take a more sinister turn. The warrant states Wargo told his classmate, "True, but have you ever heard of a dead president?"

Police tell us that Wargo planned to carry out his act of terrorism whenever Mrs. Clinton visited Baton Rouge during a primary. Mrs. Clinton was scheduled to be in Baton Rouge at the Black Mayor's Conference earlier this week, but had to cancel her speech because of an important vote in Washington.

Hillary Clinton is now scheduled to be in Baton Rouge this Saturday to make up her missed appearance. As for Wargo, he will have to watch the highlights from Parish Prison. He has a bond set on him that is usually reserved for serial killers, $1 million. It was Judge "Chip" Moore who set that $1 million bond.

Sen. Clinton is scheduled this Saturday in Baton Rouge, as well as Sen. Barrack Obama, who just Thursday received Secret Service protection, although it's unclear if there were any threats against him.

I'm a Hillary fan, but doesn't this set a precedent for incarcerating all the random blustering fools who make empty threats about killing politicians they don't like, or for that matter about killing their kids for staying out too late? What about arresting whoever made up that picture of Guiliani pushing Hillary in front of a subway train that got posted on LEF awhile ago? Shouldn't there be evidence that someone is actually planning out a realistic assassination attempt (for instance by making a bomb) before someone is arrested?

§54.1. Communicating of false information of planned arson.
A. Communicating of false information of arson or attempted
arson is the intentional impartation or conveyance, or causing the
impartation or conveyance by the use of the mail, telephone,
telegraph, word of mouth, or other means of communication, of any
threat or false information knowing the same to be false, including
bomb threats or threats involving fake explosive devices, concerning
an attempt or alleged attempt being made, or to be made, to commit either aggravated or simple arson.

B. Whoever commits the crime of communicating of false
information of arson or attempted arson shall be imprisoned at hard
labor for not more than twenty years.
