Witnesses Said Man Disarmed As He Tried To Reload

HOUSTON -- An 11-year-old boy was chased down the street by his friend's father before the man fatally shot him Sunday, authorities said.

Raymond Lee Shaw Sr. told police he came home Sunday night to find several kids hanging out with his 13-year-old son, including the victim, whose name has not been released pending notification of family.

Shaw ordered them all out and said the victim pushed and cursed him before leaving, said Houston Police Department spokesman Gabe Ortiz. Shaw followed the victim down the street with a 20-gauge shotgun and fired at him once, wounding the boy in the back and head, police said.

Neighbors disarmed the man as he tried to reload, police said. The boy died at the scene and an autopsy is planned for Tuesday.

Shaw was formally charged with murder on Monday morning.

"I hate that this tragedy happened on Mother's Day," neighbor Velisa Brown told the Houston Chronicle.

Shaw remains in Harris County Jail with bail set at $50,000 and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
