Baby carriage that a baby was in when it was shot outside a playground in Wilkinsburg.
The baby, who was in a stroller, was shot in the leg and arm and was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital. Hospital officials would not release the infant's condition, but police said they did not believe her wounds were life-threatening.
Wilkinsburg police Sgt. James Carraway said two groups of men confronted each other at the playground and "words were exchanged." They then started shooting and the baby was caught in the crossfire.
He said a lot of women and children were in the playground at the time.
The baby's mother, who was not wounded, was very distraught after the shooting.
"The mother was completely lost," he said. "This is not fun and games anymore." He added that the community needs to come together to put an end to the violence that can lead to an infant being wounded.
Sgt. Carraway said he believes one of the groups is from Homewood and the other from Wilkinsburg.
A short time later, police were called to a report of a man shot in the back and arm at Tioga and Rosedale streets in Homewood. Police later determined the man had been wounded in the shootout in Wilkinsburg.
