Al-Qaida in Iraq? I thought the Democrats keep saying that we're not fighting the same terrorists responsible for 9/11 in Iraq

BAGHDAD -- A U.S. official in Iraq says residents of Diyala province have been speaking "against al-Qaida," providing the tip that led to U.S. forces freeing 42 Iraqis Sunday from an al-Qaida hide-out.
Major General William Caldwell said the Iraqis were freed during a raid that was part of a three-month security crackdown in Diyala.

Caldwell said some of the Iraqis had been held for up to four months and had injuries from torture, including broken bones. Some civilians said they had been hung from the ceiling.
Caldwell said the 42 freed Iraqis make up the largest number of captives ever found in a single al-Qaida prison.
Two More American Soldiers Killed In Iraq
Two more Americans have died in Iraq.
The U.S. military said one soldier was killed in Diyala and one in western Baghdad when explosions hit their patrols.
At least 102 soldiers have died this month, putting May on pace to become the deadliest month for U.S. troops in Iraq in more than two and-a-half years.
Also Sunday, Iraqi police said gunmen killed one person and injured eight when they threw concussion grenades at a popular market in northern Baghdad. The gunmen later ambushed a minibus, killing the driver and abducting six passengers.
In another incident, gunmen in a northern province shot up the car of a police commander, killing him and another officer.
And in Kut, 70 police officers resigned Sunday and handed over their weapons. Police said the officers feared being targeted by Mahdi Army militants.

When in doubt, forcefully pacify.

To war and arms I fly. - Lovelace
