Man gets prolonged erection, sues drink maker
Man sues drink maker over unwanted Boost
June 6, 2007
ASSOCIATED PRESS
A man has sued the maker of the health drink Boost Plus, claiming the vitamin-enriched beverage gave him an erection that would not subside and caused him to be hospitalized.
The lawsuit filed by Christopher Woods of Manhattan, N.Y., said he bought the nutrition beverage, which is made by the Novartis pharmaceutical company, at a drugstore on June 5, 2004, and drank it.
Novartis' Boost Plus Web site describes the drink as "a great-tasting, high-calorie, nutritionally complete oral supplement for people who require extra energy and protein in a limited volume" that comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors.
Woods' court papers say he woke up the next morning "with an erection that would not subside" and sought treatment of the condition, called severe priapism. Woods, 29, underwent surgery for implantation of a Winter shunt, which moves blood from one area to another.
Woods' lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, names Novartis Consumer Health Inc. as a defendant.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

I would guess it was more likely drugs or alcohol as the cause....
This one will be hard to prove because about one third of the cases seen in ER have no known cause......."Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History"

So, who can honestly say that Boost Plus is responsible for Woods' woodie? Would Woods have done better attempting to relieve his woodie without surgery? Did Ms. Woods at least avail herself of the woodie before Woods' woodie was de-wooded?
