PC bitten as he made arrest

A Man bit a police officer who tried to restrain him during a domestic dispute.

Police were called to Anthony Duffield's home in Bentinck Court, Sneinton, on Sunday by neighbours who heard screaming and shouting.

Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard that when PC Spencer Pugh and PC Thomas O'Dell arrived, they found Duffield, 38, and his partner had been drinking heavily.

Dona Parry-Jones, prosecuting, said: "Officers witnessed him elbowing [his partner] in the face but she denied she was assaulted.

"Police tried to arrest him and he pushed at PC Pugh shouting 'get out'."

When PC O'Dell tried to restrain him with handcuffs, Duffield told him 'you're going to have to fight me'.

PC O'Dell wrestled Duffield to the floor, and was bitten by him. PC O' Dell suffered two bite wounds, which drew blood.

Duffield admitted assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The court heard Duffield suffered from a personality disorder and alcoholism. He will be sentenced on July 2.

I was at the custody suite when this guy and his partner came in he was not a very pleasant chap but I can see why he would have wanted to beat her up she was just as bad.

Last time a guy tried to bite me during an arrest he ended up in Casualty not the Custody Suite.

He was the second one we took to hosptial that weekend the other was a burglar who got caught inside the premises and didn't want to come out. "right come out or i'll send the dog in" then we sent the dog in two dog bites later he came out
