Boy Nearly Dies From Water Intoxication

SAN DIEGO -- A Vista man is accused of forcing a 4-year-old boy to drink large amounts of water, reported NBC 7/39.

San Diego County Sheriff's Department investigators said that Robert Palma, 28, made Angel Jimenez drink water last week so Palma could use the boy's clean urine for a drug test at work.

Investigators said the boy drank too much water, too quickly and began showing the effects of water intoxication.
"He was not being himself," the boy's mother, Jessica Jiminez, told NBC 7/39. "He was like if he was drunk."

Symptoms of water intoxification include dizziness, headaches and vomiting. "When you take in too much water, your cells swell up," Dr. Susan Lewis of Scripps Mercy Hospital told NBC 7/39. "Your kidneys can not get rid of all that fluid."

Jiminez said the incident occurred at the Vista apartment she used to live in with her three children and her ex-boyfriend, Palma.
"I was asking him his name, and the only thing he would say was, 'I love you,' " said Jiminez.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital by air ambulance. He survived, but Palma is now facing felony child abuse charges.
"It never cease to amaze me what people will do to their children or other people's children," said Sgt. Jim Walker of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Palma is being held at the Vista Detention Center. His bail has been set at $200,000

I think Palma needs to be drowned in some other fashion.
