A self-proclaimed Neo-Nazi accused of stabbing his neighbors allegedly sought to escape from the Land O' Lakes Jail earlier this year, according to Bay News 9's newspaper partner, the St. Petersburg Times.

Another inmate turned John Ditullio Jr. in, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. Ditullio confessed in May to digging an 18-inch hole in the side of his steel toilet. It had been peeled back from the wall and led to a crawl space behind the cell.

Remnants of jail suits were found in the bunks, altered to look like civilian clothes. A 22-foot rope made from torn sheets twisted into braids and tied together was also found in the cell. Three hacksaw blades and one jigsaw blade were recovered. Ditullio said he owned the blades.

Ditullio was arrested on March 23, 2006 in connection with that day's stabbings on Teak Street in New Port Richey in which 17-year-old Kristofer King was killed and Patricia Wells was injured.

In addition to first-degree murder, which he has pleaded not guilty to as he awaits trial, Ditullio is now charged with attempted escape, a second-degree felony.
