Newest Chandler cop is just 9 years old

The Chandler Police Department inducted its newest police officer Wednesday. And he’s just 9 years old.
Officer Shevy Wright of Chandler was fitted with a custom-made uniform to fit his 4 foot, 2 inch body, complete with handcuffs, a radio, a badge and a Taser gun.
He was given a locker at the main Chandler police station and a license plate with his badge number, CPD1018, for his future car.
Shevy’s wish is to become a police officer. After he was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor in December, the Chandler Police Department rallied around this little boy to make his dream a reality.
"I want to be a police officer because they catch bad guys," said Shevy, a third-grader at Dobson Academy in Chandler. "I just love my uniform."
Shevy joined the ranks of the Chandler Police Department Wednesday morning after he took an oath of office from Chandler police Chief Sherry Kiyler. Chandler Mayor Boyd Dunn also read a special proclamation in his honor.
"This is awesome for him," said his mom, Heather Wright.
Shevy spent the day doing various police activities. He ate a doughnut, took a ride in a helicopter and worked with the K-9 unit. He took a ride in a Special Assignment Unit van, went on a ride-along with an officer and practiced firing a gun in a Fire Arms Training Simulator.
It’s been a tough year for Shevy. His mom said she knew something was wrong with her son when he went cross-eyed. She took him to the hospital, and doctors discovered the inoperable brain tumor. He went through radiation, but the tumor didn’t shrink.
The tumor makes him a little off balanced, and affects his swallowing, eyesight, walking and talking.
Shevy and his family took a trip to Disney World in June through the Make a Wish Foundation. Shevy has twin 8-year-old sisters, Destiny and Ginger. The two girls each received her own Build-a-Bear decked out in police uniforms Wednesday so they didn’t feel excluded from the festivities.
The idea to become a police officer came about after his mom had him arrested when he was 6 years old. Shevy was stealing from his friends and needed to learn a lesson, she said.
"Ever since, he has wanted to be a police officer because they protect people and arrest the bad people," said Wright, 28, a manager at a Fazoli’s restaurant.

It would be cool if we could get this kids address and mail him some stuff from our own departments
