Man, who is free to go from traffic stop, still decides to shoot it out. Cops 1, Shithead 0.
Hey guys, this one is a real eye opener. How many times have we al told someone that they're free to go, and don't pay them a second thought? Watch them til they are GONE. This one hits VERY close to home. The trooper that got shot is the husband of one of my VERY good friends...she's a copper for my department, and my fellow gang officer. This trooper has been at weddings with me, has given me rides home when I was hammered, etc. Just an all around stand up guy. He's also a shit magnet. Been in a shooting already down I25, where his vehicle took nearly half a dozen rounds. PITed more vehicles than I could name off. Now this. It's unbelievable. He's okay...last word was he was going into surgery to remove some bone fragment. Haven't heard anything on the deputy. Again, close to home, and I'm really glad the coppers came out okay, and the world has one less piece of shit in it now. Just wanted to share it with you all, and please, my brothers and sister...be safe!

DENVER - A Colorado State Patrol trooper and an Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputy were shot and wounded and a suspect was fatally shot in the head after a traffic stop Thursday night.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. near 10th and Federal Boulevard, just south of Invesco Field at Mile High.
Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman says several agencies were in the area on Thursday night as part of the newly-formed Metro DUI Task Force. They were serving warrants and stopping people for possible DUIs. It was the first night of the task force's operations.
Whitman says Colorado State Patrol trooper Dennis Wilder, pulled over the driver of a small SUV for a cracked windshield. Both cars pulled into the 7-Eleven parking lot at 1000 Federal Boulevard. Two Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputies were already in the parking lot.
During the stop, Wilder discovered there was an outstanding warrant for the driver of the SUV, so he called a Denver Police officer for back-up.
After the driver was arrested, the passenger in the SUV was asked to walk home.
The passenger then pulled a gun and pointed it in the Denver officer's face.
Officer Ryan Kobernick, a six-year veteran with the DUI unit, tried to grab the gun from the suspect and wrestle it away from him. Wilder and the deputies rushed to help Kobernick.
During the scuffle, the suspect's gun went off twice. One shot hit Wilder in the left foot and another shot hit one of the deputies, Lieutenant Steve Curti, in the left wrist.
The other deputy then opened fire on the suspect and apparently hit him in the head at least once.
Wilder and Curti are both listed in fair condition at Denver Health Medical Center. Sheriff Grayson Robinson says Curti is expected to be OK. Curti underwent surgery Thursday night and will have an additional surgery Friday to remove bone fragments.
Kobernick was treated for a broken nose and released early Friday morning.
The suspect, whose identity was not released, died at about 2 a.m. Friday at the hospital.
The driver of the car that was stopped, whose identity was also not released, is now in police custody on the outstanding warrant. Whitman says that warrant was for a minor violation.

Prayers to the injured officers.
I was trained early to keep an eye on the violator after the stop, until they pull away. Never had an incident or really thought much about it but It can sure pay off.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."

What an idiot! All the subject had to do was be cool about it and take a walk, but no, he had to escalate the situation thus getting himself killed. I am so glad that the officers weren't hurt any worse than they were and hope those aren't career ending injuries. Many prayers for a speedy recovery and hope these guys can get back to the jobs that they do best.

Glad to hear the good guys are ok.
That's why I never go back in service on a stop, until the violator has pulled away and left.

After reading the update just now, it seems that this bonehead has been identified and had quite the criminal record. What a loser. Great job to the LEO'S for getting yet another POS off the street.

DENVER – On Friday, police identified the man who was shot and killed after a struggle that left two officers wounded.
Denver Police say 25-year-old Carlos Becerra was shot in the head and died at 2 a.m. on Friday after the incident that began around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven at 10th and Federal.
Two Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputies were already in the lot.
During the stop, Wilder discovered there was an outstanding warrant for the driver of the SUV, 30-year-old Julius Michael Poorman. Wilder then called a Denver Police officer for back-up.
The warrant against him was for failing to appear in the case that began with harassment charges.
After Poorman was arrested, Becerra, who was a passenger in the SUV, was told to walk home.
Becerra then pulled a gun and pointed it in Denver Officer Ryan Kobernick's face.
Kobernick tried to grab the gun and a struggle began. Wilder and the two Arapahoe deputies tried to help him.
During the scuffle, Becerra's gun went off twice. One shot hit Wilder in the left foot and another shot hit one of the deputies, Lieutenant Steve Curti, in the left wrist.
The other deputy, whose name was not released, then opened fire on the suspect and apparently hit him in the head at least once.
Becerra died at 2 a.m. after being treated at Denver Health Medical Center.
He has a lengthy criminal record including several incidents of motor vehicle theft, larceny and parole violation.
Poorman is being held in the Denver County Jail on the charges of failing to appear as well as suspected DUI and a defective vehicle.
