The only downside to the whole thing when they tried it a couple years back here was that even more of them insisted on being out in the streets doing nothing all day. The upside was I heard more legal citizens getting mad about them being here at all because they went from nuisance to almost infestation overnight. So go ahead, boycott, quit earning money (and buying drugs and stacking yourselves 12 deep in a 2 bedroom house) and walk your happy asses back home. And for pete's sake, quit whistling at me when I'm walking down the sidewalk. That'll teach us.

Currently, in the greater DC area, there have been several anti-illegal alien movements and actions by governments. For example, Loudon and Prince William Counties have passed ordinances restricting services to illegal aliens, and the Town of Herndon is changing the management of its day laborer hiring center in order to get someone who will check laborer immigration status.

Immigrant groups are responding; they're missing the point. It's not legal immigrants that people have problems with. It's the ILLEGAL aliens... Yes, it's frustrating when an area changes to "majority minority" and Latino restaurants and business take the place of Vietnamese or Middle Eastern run businesses (which took the place of others...), especially when "We speak Spanish" is no longer an advertising bonus, but a necessity for a business. But we'd cope with that (there's a reason I specified Vietnamese and Middle Eastern -- especially Iranian...) But when groups of illegal aliens demand the same rights and privileges as citizens, disregard multiple laws daily, persistently, and openly... That's when they build animosity.

Of course... There is another issue. I assisted ICE in transporting some detainees recently; the pointed out two things. First -- who's gonna mow the lawns. There is some truth to this... Unemployment is low; bottom wage labor jobs are going to be tough to fill without illegals. Oh... and they mentioned one other thing... "Who's gonna give you good pupusas?"

Yeah... I told 'em I wasn't exactly heartbroken over that...

Even better was the one who told me that, since we arrested him for being illegal here, he'd arrest me if I was illegally in his country! Maybe he don't realize... El Sal and Honduras both have major problems with illegals -- and deal with them a lot more harshly than we do. (Given his overall situation -- I think he's probably back on the street, with a notice to appear. Or so ICE tells me...)
