Man Kills 6 Year Old with Cleaver
Man arrested after child killed with cleaver in Ventura County

THOUSAND OAKS – Sheriff's deputies arrested a man for investigation of killing a 6-year-old boy with a meat cleaver and wounding his mother during an attack witnessed by horrified onlookers outside an apartment complex.
The suspect, Calvin Sharp, 28, knew the boy and his mother, Sandra Ruiz, 33, who was critically injured when she tried to stop the attack Sunday night in the courtyard of a Newbury Park apartment complex, said Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Jerry Hernandez.
Neighbor David Crawford said Sharp shouted at the boy “die, die” as he struck him in the head repeatedly.
“He said he was tired of him playing video games all the time,” Crawford, 21, told the Los Angeles Times. “He said his ex-wife had cheated on him and was sleeping with all his friends.”
Sharp was arrested at the apartment complex after neighbors restrained him until deputies arrived. He was shot several times with a stun gun during the arrest, authorities said.
During the attack on Ruiz, who was listed in critical condition at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, a woman who also lived in the apartment complex ran outside and tackled Sharp, knocking the cleaver out of his hand.
The woman and another man pinned him down until police arrived. The woman was released from the hospital after being treated for a facial cut she received during the struggle.
