ARGYLE, Texas -- A 6-year-old girl's skull was punctured by a metal rod when she rode her bicycle into the back of a parked trailer, a fire official said.
The girl, whose name was not released, was flown by CareFlite to Childrens Medical Center at Dallas on Monday night, when she was listed in critical condition, Argyle Fire Chief Mac Hohenberger said.
The incident was reported about 6:45 p.m. Monday in the community of Lantana, an unincorporated area of Denton County about 35 miles northeast of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
She was riding her bicycle down the neighborhood street with friends when she ran into the rebar protruding from the back of a trailer, Hohenberger told The Dallas Morning News. Rebar is commonly used to reinforce concrete.
The trailer was parked in front of a home under construction, neighbors said.
Initial reports stated that the girl fell onto 4 inches of rebar, said Argyle Police Chief William Tackett, whose officers assisted on the call.
Her condition is unknown.
The girl’s mother followed her to the hospital. Her father was out of town at the time of the accident.

Sounds like dad should have been teaching his little girl how to ride a bike, rather than being out of town. LOL.

The latest news:
Hi everybody,
Great news today, Alexa had an excellent day and night and was moving her left arm and leg almost all the time. She still has not done much with the right side, but that is expected and should get better over time. They also let her listen to her MP3 player yesterday and she immediately became calmer and closed her eyes to rest; I know she enjoyed the music. The doctors are considering moving her today to the rehab floor and taking her off the critical list.
Thanks again for everything and especially the prayers

My Story
My name is Alexa Eason, and I just turned 6 years old. I love to do gymnastics, read, draw, ride bikes & bother my 3 older brothers....
On evening of Monday August 6th, 2007, while riding my bike, I ran into some lengths of rebar which were hanging off the back of a parked trailer. One of the pieces punctured my skull and went into my head (ouch!). Fortunately, my friends ran to get help right away, and all the right people were where they needed to be to help me.
An ambulance came and the EMT’s assessed me and drove me to my school to meet the Care Flite helicopter, which flew me to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. There were teams of surgeons, doctors, nurses and other wonderful support people that have and still are working really hard to save my life and help me get better.
Early Tuesday morning, the neurosurgeons did an operation to remove part of my skull to allow room for my brain to swell. Over the next few days, they gave me antibiotics, medicines to keep me asleep and still, and medicines to help lower the swelling and pressure in my brain. They also used a ventilator to help me breathe. A feeding tube to give me nutrition and a catheter to … well, you know! L
On Monday morning, almost a week after my accident, they started to “wean” me off the medicines and slowly wake me up.
On Thursday, the 16th they removed my ventilator tube and I am able to breathe on my own and I have opened my eyes but I still am not awake enough to speak, although I can hear when people talk to me.
Please feel free to visit my website and I will try and keep everyone up to date on my progress.
PS – A BIG Thank You for all the thoughts and prayers, I know they have helped me get to this point
