    Stab-proof vest saves policeman

    A policeman was saved by his protective vest when he was stabbed by a man armed with two knives.

    Officers were called in the early hours of Friday after reports of a man walking in the middle of the road of the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle.
    Police asked the 23-year-old man to come on to the pavement and he lunged at an officer and stabbed him. The policeman was uninjured in the attack. Officers used a stun gun on the man and he was arrested.

    Eh?!?! Not to judge incidents which I had no part in, but damn. If some fool comes at me with two knives AND stabs me with one of them and I'm still alive to tell the story then the story will conclude in a hail of gunfire. Thats just nuts, thank god for that officer's vest.

    This happened in England, where most often the officers aren't armed. I was honestly surprised when I read the officer had a stun gun. Glad to hear the stab vest worked the way it's supposed to.

    Ducky if its like the areas I work the officers who used the stun gun/Taser will be Authorised Firearms Officers called to the scene as back up.
    It is only these officers ,at the moment, who are issued a taser as a non lethal option.
    Apparently they don't trust us "Plods" with such an item.
    Although in truth more policemen will end up being tasered than criminals!
    the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.
