FLOWER MOUND, TX — Police are examining a video recording of a skateboarding stunt that went wrong Wednesday afternoon and resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy.
Kyle Darroca, of Lewisville, was run over by the sport-utility vehicle that was towing him around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Garden Ridge Elementary School.
Darroca was holding on to the side of the vehicle and “skitching” — a combination of skateboarding and hitching-a-ride — while attempting to land an ollie. An ollie is a trick in which the rider leaps off the board, flipping it in the air at the same time and then attempts to land back on the board, police said.
After several failed attempts, Darroca tried again and fell under the vehicle. He was flown to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The 16-year-old boy who was driving the SUV was questioned, as was the boy with the video camera, and both were released to their parents, police spokesman officer Steven Caldwell said. Both young men were cooperative, Caldwell said. The investigation is ongoing.

Kids can be so stupid
... I'm glad this newspaper refrained from calling it an "accident" but most reports are calling it that. As a very wise firearms instructor told me years ago, "There's no such thing as an "accident", only a lapse of judgement". Rumor is that the SUV rolled over his head.

Reporting
(CBS 11 News) FLOWER MOUND Police released new information on the death of a Lewisville skateboarder accidentally killed by his best friend in Flower Mound Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Thursday that a third teen was videotaping 15-year-old Kyle Darroca doing tricks that involved holding onto the side of a vehicle. Because of the ongoing investigation, police said the tape would not be released.
Click here to see another video of Kyle skateboarding on the site SponsorHouse.com.
Kyle, who was not wearing a helmet, was attempting an "Ollie" trick, police said. The trick requires the skateboarder to pop the skateboard and himself into the air and then land on all four wheels.
"From what I heard, this was their fifth attempt at an Ollie," said police spokesman Officer Steven Caldwell. "They were trying to create the world's largest Ollie or something like that. They were trying to be careful and had someone watching traffic."
Officer Paul Boon said Kyle was holding onto the side of a green Ford Explorer when he fell and was apparently run over by the vehicle's back tires.
The teenage driver has been identified as Stephen Coleman. The 16-year-old is the son of a Dallas police sergeant, and police say he could face charges in Darroca's death.

Unfortunately MTV's Jackass, Scarred and other media have promoted these types of antics. It's unfortunate that the boy died, but when you take the risk you have to be prepared for the consequences.

Kinda sad that his friend will face charges. Its not like anybody forced him to do that stunt. The friend is probably already traumatized with the knowledge that he ran over his friend.
