Alachua County, Florida - The Alachua County Sheriff's Office says a Lieutenant didn't know a mother was pregnant when he tasered her stomach.
A pregnant Leslie Donaldson says she was trying to help break up a fight between neighborhood kids. That's when the sheriff's deputy showed up. He tazed one of the boys fighting then said he had to taser Donaldson.
"She raised her arm to the deputy. The deputy felt threatened like she was going to hit him potentially," said Alachua County Sheriff's Lieutenant David Clark.
Clark is a certified taser instructor with the Sheriff's Office. He says when he tasered her stomach, he didn't realize she was 8 months pregnant.
Donaldson says she still has the marks on her belly.
She was arrested for battery, after she was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
Donaldson filed a report about the incident and the Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Taser instructors, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there is any evidence supporting the claim that a Taser will injure or kill a fetus.

    Correct?

I'm not an instructor, but i am certified in taser use. It is not a good idea to tase a pregnant woman, but I don't recall anything saying that it would cause harm to the unborn child. The only reported problems have arisen from suspects that were high on drugs and deaths have occurred as a result of the drugs, not the taser. There have not been any deaths as a direct result of the taser from what I recall.

My point exactly. She says someone hit her in the stomach and shoulder while she was breaking up the fight before the Deputy was on scene, yet she's filing a complaint against the Deputy because of DEEP POCKET SYNDROME.

The ONLY thing we were told to consider in use of a taser on a pregnant woman was to beware of fall potential.

I agree, they didn't say don't do it, just be aware of the surroundings and the potential for something bigger as a result.

Oh no,, I didn't mean you took that angle, I was only saying that it's typical that a schmuk gets Tasered then blames the police. I say they better think about it long and hard before they do whatever action requires the Taser to be used.. LOL
