Fake motorcade breaches security near Bush
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - So much for iron-clad summit security.
Members of an Australian TV comedy show drove through two security checkpoints in Sydney today with a fake motorcade.
A rider in one of the vehicles was dressed up like Osama bin Laden.
Police finally stopped the motorcade near the hotel where President Bush is staying.
Eleven members of the show's cast and crew have been arrested and their three vehicles have been impounded. They're charged with entering a restricted APEC area and face as much as six months in jail.
The show, called "The Chaser's War on Everything," is aired by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
The stunt comes as a deep embarrassment for Sydney police who've been describing security for the Pacific summit as the tightest in the city's history.
The fake motorcade included three large cars flying Canadian flags, guided by two official-looking motorcycles. The real police waved them through two checkpoints before finally catching on.
One cast member says they picked Canada because they figured it wouldn't attract too much scrutiny.

I hope they spend the whole 6 months in jail figuring out why they tried a stunt like that.

Then you are a truer South Park fan than I.

Methinks we have hijacked this thread. As you were, everyone."The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly."

Yes, so true ~ $16 million has been spent on security.
The ABC's (our Govt run broadcaster) budget is pretty frugal, imagine the $$ real terrorists budget and what might have happened, 3 large cars = 3 large car bombs!!
It just shows that we're still living in the 70's, we don't take security seriously, I know, I've worked on plenty of high profile operations in the past.

Chaser boys detained again
http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story...005940,00.html
THREE members of ABC TV's The Chaser team have been questioned by police after strapping on cardboard cars complete with Canadian flags and "driving" through central Sydney.
In a send-up of yesterday's prank in which the comedians drove a fake motorcade through security checkpoints, Craig Reucassel, Chris Taylor and Dominic Knight were this afternoon on the streets filming a new segment for their show, The Chaser's War on Everything.
The trio dressed in black cardboard boxes shaped like limousines, complete with Canadian flags on the front and paper plates as wheels.
ABC spokesman Peter Ritchie said the trio were stopped on Bligh Street and had been taken in for questioning by police but quickly released without charge.
"They were filming a stunt and were questioned by police and then released," Mr Ritchie said.
"They were well outside the APEC security zone."
Security officials were still fuming about yesterday's APEC motorcade stunt, warning that the TV comedians could have been shot by snipers.
They got to within metres of US President George W Bush's Sydney hotel before Chaser member Chas Licciardello jumped out of their Canadian-flagged "fauxtorcade" dressed as Osama bin Laden.
The stunt led to charges against 11 people, including Licciardello and fellow satirist Julian Morrow.
Reucassel said police allowed them to go free today after ascertaining no laws had been broken.
"The police basically just detained us and checked whether we'd breached any laws, which we hadn't and we're on our way," he told ABC radio.
Taylor added: "It was good. We didn't do anything wrong at all. We were very careful to stay within the letter of the law and I think the police realised that, so yeah, it was fine."
