Two police officers facing discipline in Rockford
September 1, 2007 (ROCKFORD, Ill.) - Two Rockford police officers could lose their jobs for allegedly using department computers to write online complaints during working hours. Their comments on the Rockford Register Star's Web site, included harsh critiques of their boss and the Rockford Police Department. The city's Fire and Police Commission meets September Tenth to consider the fates of officers Jason Bailey and Kevin Nordberg.
The case is seen as the latest chapter in the unrest between Rockford Police Chief Chet Epperson's administration and the union that represents about 280 sworn officers.
Rockford police have worked for 20 months without a labor contract, and an arbitrator has yet to rule on a new wage and benefits package.

Don't know the whole story but it sounds like retalitation. I don't talk to media as a rule but unless it's against department policy...

I found early on in my job experience that keeping my mouth shut was a pretty good idea. Can't say that I've always followed that edict, but I do try. Sometimes one only adds fuel to the fire rather than clarifying anthing.

Definately retailiation I mean who doent complain about their boses at one point or another. I'm sure they did it to when they were low on the totem pole. These guys just did it where they were caught.
'course its not like they called their chief a little f***er on a recorded line during a call that was sure to be reviewed...right Pudge?

Yes its retaliation, but there's cases where if you use an employer's computer, on employer time, to do something the boss doesn't want you to be doing, you'll soon find yourself with 40+ hours a week of more free time.
Hell in one of my HR classes they even showed us an example where OFF duty airline workers were punished for online posts they'd made at home, and the punishments were still upheld.
