Video doesn't show much, but it seemed like they were keeping a distance. What are you supposed to do with a gator?

Police Officers In Trouble After Wrestling Alligator

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Two police officers were ordered to attend counseling sessions after wrestling an alligator at a Seminole County apartment complex.

The Altamonte Springs police officers may have taken unnecessary risks when they captured the reptile at Lotus Landing Apartments, officials said.

The officers captured the 8-foot alligator by themselves, and a police supervisor said they should have called for assistance.

Casey Dillard said the alligator was near his apartment when he came home from work and wouldn't leave. Dillard called authorities, and the two police officers decided to take capture the reptile.

Officials at the Altamonte Springs Police Department said they weren't happy with the decision and ordered the officers to attend counseling.

"It's one-on-one counseling by their supervisor to talk about the incident and a different way they could have handled it," Altamonte Springs Police Department spokeswoman Karen Stesen-Reuter said.

Both officers said they felt like they were doing the right thing and were concerned for the residents because at one point the gator was trying to climb some stairs and was on the back patio of one of the apartments.

It is total BS that they were told they should have waited they handled the problem. I have caught plenty of gators and don't see the reason to leave the problem there until someone else comes to fixit.

What a waste of resources....they are being made to attend counseling over a simple gator capture, I could just imagine what they would think of how I have seen raccoons delt with!!!!

I think they did a good job, got a top jaw rope on the gator put the rope around a tree to imobilize it they didn't get hurt, the boot leather source didn't get hurt and most important voting citizens didn't get hurt, Good job give them a commendation and an extra half hour 10-7 and call it even.
