Two robbers shot in bank robbery
Two robbers have been killed in a shooting during a suspected armed robbery at a bank in Hampshire.
Hampshire Constabulary were deployed to the scene outside HSBC branch in Bournemouth Road, Chandler's Ford in Southampton on Thursday.
One person is thought to have died in hospital. A spokesman said police were involved in a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad. The Independent Police Complaints Commission will conduct an inquiry.
It said in a statement: "The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been called in to carry out an independent investigation of the circumstances surrounding the shooting by Metropolitan Police Service officers of two men at Chandler's Ford, Eastleigh, Hampshire, earlier today.
"IPCC investigators are to attend the scene."
Earlier, one eyewitness said: "I heard three shots.
"As I looked over the balcony edge I could see an unmarked police car and there were four police officers that had got out of the car."
Employees at Mann & Co estate agents, just yards from where the shooting happened, rushed out of the back of their offices when they heard the gunshots on Thursday morning.
One said: "I knew it was the sound of bullets immediately.
"Everyone just ran to get as far away as possible.
"The police must have been tipped off.
"One customer told us they saw police officers running out of the public toilets just near to the bank and then they heard the shots.
"This is out of the ordinary for sleepy Chandler's Ford so we are all a bit shook up."

one for the good guys
http://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl
We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
