Hawaii First State To OK Random Drug Testing Of Educators

HONOLULU -- The American Civil Liberties Union is urging public school teachers and others to join a legal challenge of random drug testing, KITV-TV in Honolulu reported.
Thousands of teachers approved a new contract in May that included a wage increase in exchange for random drug testing. The vote made Hawaii the first state in the country to allow random drug testing of its educators.
"It violates the rights of public school employees. It is ineffective. It diverts scarce resources away from much-needed school services," said Vanessa Chong of the ACLU.
