Bill Clinton jokes he might not handle being 'first husband' very well
"No, I may slit my throat," former president Bill Clinton joked last night on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart after being asked how well he might cope with going from leader of the world's remaining superpower to husband of the first woman president.
Our friends at ABC News' Political Radar blog point out that the former president then quickly got serious, saying "my basic job will be to support her if she wins. Go and do what is most needed, and what is best for the country, let her make that call."
Clinton also recommended, as Political Radar notes, that the presidential candidates get more sleep.
"I do believe sleep deprivation has a lot to do with some of the edginess of Washington today," he said, "And if we can find a way for them and their challengers to run for elections without making them go out five nights a week for this endless hunt for funds. ... I think America would be better."
Stewart summed up that advice this way: "President Clinton's prescription for 21st Century America: 'Giving' through charity and ... naps.' "
"And both will make you happy," Clinton added with a laugh.
