Armed Man Arrested At St. John's University

My older son attends the Staten Island campus.

Initial reports say the rifle was a .50 cal.


(CBS) NEW YORK CBS 2 HD has learned police have apprehended a man who was reportedly walking around St. John's University campus in Queens armed with a weapon, and wearing a mask of Michael Myers, the psychotic murderer from the horror movie "Halloween."

The Jamaica Estates campus was apparently locked down and students told to stay in their dorms as police searched for the suspect, who was arrested around 3 p.m.

Police say the man, apparently a 22-year-old Guyanese student, was carrying a .50 caliber rifle inside a bag. Public Safety officers quickly disarmed the suspect and have turned him over to the NYPD.

University officials tell CBS 2 HD that text messages were immediately sent to students when reports of the suspect surfaced, and a public safety message was posted on the school's Web site.

Authorities were said looking for a second suspect as a precaution, but there are no other confirmed suspects at this time.

There is no word yet as to what led authorities to the suspect.

I don't give a rats ass if it was rusted up flintlock. Wrong place, wrong toy. Is the story changed at all? No. The guy was on a college campus with a gun that was a fifty caliber. In all honesty, I would rather be hit with a FMJ .50 then with a dirty ball or sabot round from a black powder.

You're first post gives the impression that you don't see it as a big deal, because he was only carrying a single shot muzzle loader.

Ummmm no.

I was simply pointing out how the media plays on an ignorant public. The weapon in question was a single shot, black powder rifle. The weapon that msnbc was using in their story was a Barrett.

As for the perp, I could care less what happens to him. Stupid should hurt. A lot.
