Sheriff Offers To Marry Fugitives If They Surrender
LAPEER, Mich. -- The Lapeer County sheriff compares them to Bonnie and Clyde.
But unlike the legendary crime duo, who never got married, these modern bank robbery suspects have an offer from sheriff Ron Kalanquin to help them tie the knot.
That's if the 24-year-old man and 23-year-old woman surrender.
They are suspects in the Sept. 19 robbery of a Deerfield Township bank, about 60 miles north of Detroit. About $5,000 were taken.
The Flint Journal reports that detectives believe the stolen money was spent on wedding rings, back rent and to pay the woman's attorney for work in a child custody case.
Kalanquin said the couple met after the man was released from the county jail and was introduced to her by another ex-inmate.
