RENO, Nev., Sept. 29, 2007 - The search for the suspect in the videotaped sexual assault of a little girl was shifted Saturday from a rural county to Las Vegas, where the man was last known to live and where it's believed the chilling tape was made.

Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles was referred to Friday as a suspect as the FBI and Nye County investigators concluded that he was the man seen on the tape molesting a 3-year-old girl. The girl, who is now 7, was found safe in Las Vegas with her mother, who was unaware of the assault, Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said Friday in Pahrump.
Stiles, 34, has lived in Pahrump, 50 miles west of Las Vegas, but his most recent address was in Las Vegas and that is where he was last seen, two weeks ago, Boruchowitz said at a news conference Friday night.
Las Vegas Metro Police gave little information about the investigation Saturday.
"We have assumed the lead on the sexual assault case. We are conducting an ongoing investigation but have no further details," Bill Cassell, the department's public information officer, said tersely.
Stiles also is wanted on an unrelated state warrant issued last year charging lewdness with a minor under 14 years of age and on a federal fugitive warrant.
Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett said Friday that a Las Vegas attorney reported he had been told by a client that Stiles was a knife-packing survivalist who vowed that police would never catch him alive.
Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said Stiles was a registered sex offender, but he did not provide details.
Las Vegas police have said Stiles had a string of arrests dating back to 1999 on several charges, including assault, battery, resisting a police officer, auto theft, leaving the scene of an accident and contempt of court. He was convicted in 1999 of carrying a concealed weapon and in 2001 of conspiracy to commit grand larceny, according to Clark County District Court records.
The little girl's mother knew nothing about the case or her daughter's involvement until somebody told her they had seen the child on television, Boruchowitz said. "It was very sad for her to find this out."
The girl was located after authorities on Friday released information they would not normally disclose in order to get tips from the public, including a picture, DeMeo said. The widespread media attention led someone to call the girl's mother, who contacted police, authorities said.
Authorities said the videotape was made at a Las Vegas residence that did not belong to the girl's family, though her mother recognized furniture seen in still images of the tape. She also recognized Stiles in a photo released by police.

HENDERSON, Nev., Oct. 15, 2007 - Police said late Monday they had arrested Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, the man accused of videotaping himself while raping a 3-year-old girl.

Sgt. John Loretto from Las Vegas police department confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate. Loretto said police would provide details at a press conference late Monday. Stiles, 37, had been the focus of a nationwide manhunt since police identified him as the man who raped and sexually assaulted a girl in a homemade videotape that surfaced last month in the rural Nevada town of Pahrump.
The girl was found with her mother in Las Vegas on Sept. 28. Now 7 years old, she has been described as happy and healthy, with no memory of the 2003 encounter with Stiles.
Authorities had sought the public's help in finding Stiles, who was wanted on state and federal warrants in a case alleging he groped a 6-year-old girl in 2003.
An allegation that he had sexually assaulted a young girl in 2001 was getting a new look from police during the search.
Police say they had received hundreds of tips about Stiles, who they had called dangerous and possibly armed based on earlier arrests.
Stiles had previously been arrested on charges including assault, battery, resisting a police officer, auto theft, leaving the scene of an accident and contempt of court, authorities said.
He was convicted in 1999 in Las Vegas of carrying a concealed weapon, and in 2001 of conspiracy to commit grand larceny. He pleaded no contest in Houston in 1993 to unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett said others have characterized Stiles as a "survivalist type" who claimed to have weapons, a Navy SEAL background and who always carried a knife.
The man who turned the tape in, Darrin Tuck, 26, was arrested last month on a probation violation charge, and was likely to face pornography charges, Beckett said.

Well as most people know, child peds. are not looked upon highly at prison. I bet he will get his justice within one year of lock up, unless he is in solitary. I would pay money to see his ass get shanked!

I am game, maybe we can get Vegas in on the odds, I hear they have plenty of nice hotels with arenas. To make it better, I hope his ass gets shanked with a dull spoon as well as other parts of his body

That is so true. We had a guy who took two young girls out of their homes in the middle of the night by boxcutter...took them to a house under construction and did things I won't even repeat. Well, he got stupid, got busted and when he went to jail he bragged about what he did. He got the total shit beat out of him. Never been so happy in my life....a little street justice.

I also like the fact that street justice is being served by criminals themselves.... I am telling you guys, we could make millions promoting prision street justice. Honestly if someone did something like that to my little boy, I cant say the thought prison will hold me back from doing something totally justified to guaranty the well being of every child out there

Let's hope Chester the Molester gets whats coming to him. A nice slow death would be nice. Up here they are not put with the main prison population in order to protect them. At one of the prisons here they have seperate housing that is on the prison grounds but not connected to the main housing. Such a shame as it would save the tax payers so much money if the main prison population could take care of them.

My question is (and no offense to anyone named chester) You name you kid chester there are only two things that he could do by name. 1. Chester cheetah and there is already one of them and hes not even real but he does have a craving for powdery snacks and 2. Chester Chester Child Molester and that is well ...explains itself .... Its kinda like naming your kid Lexus, Mercedes or Candy, and having high hopes for your daughter.the only thing they will be doing is dancing on a poll not running for congress... Kinda like a self fulfilling prophecy for the kids
