Teens chased, shot at with pellet gun



NORTH BEND, Wash. -- Two 15-year-old girls suffered minor injures when they were shot by teens wielding pellet guns as the girls got off a school bus in North Bend Tuesday afternoon.

The two girls, both students at Mt. Si High School, were getting off their bus around 3:15 when they were shot, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Merrill. The girls ran a short distance to one of the girl's home.

The shooters chased after them in a Ford Explorer, with two of the four people inside continuing to shoot at the girls while they ran, Merrill said.

Merrill said the father of the girl whose home they were running to is a Washington State Patrol trooper and former Navy SEAL. As the girls ran inside the house yelling, the trooper, who was off duty, jumped in his patrol car and chased the shooters as they tried to speed away.

With the trooper following, the teens ran into a dead end near Rattlesnake Lake. The trooper stopped the car and held the teens at gunpoint while he waited for backup.

Other troopers and King County deputies arrived and helped arrest the four who were inside the SUV. Troopers also recovered several pellet guns.

Merrill said all four teens admitted to the shooting, and said they all have criminal records and attend Mt. Si High School. He said one had already been suspended for allegedly bringing a weapon to school.

Merrill said the teens told the trooper they thought it would be fun to drive around and shoot people.

"It was a starting revelation as to what they thinking," said Merrill. "I can't begin to fathom where that came from."

Those kids must have been scared shitless. Makes me smile just thinking about it. The trooper, after getting over the pissed off over my daughter's problem factor, must have been one damn happy fellow. Great story!
