Cop shoots unarmed motorist, locked up his grieving family members. (sarcastic Liberal headline parody)

Officer shoots, kills motorist after collision in Oakley

(10-28) 17:53 PDT Oakley - -- An Oakley police officer shot and killed a 49-year-old motorist after the man, who had just been in a traffic collision, attacked the officer and tried to grab his gun, a police spokesman said Sunday.
Before the incident late Saturday was over, the son of the driver was arrested for being combative, and the driver's brother was taken into custody for trying to run down officers who responded to the scene, the spokesman said.
The driver, who was pronounced dead at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, was identified Sunday as James Brennan of Oakley. The officer was identified as Ian Jones, 42, a seven-year veteran of the Oakley Police Department.
Jones has been with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, which provides law enforcement services on a contract basis for Oakley, since October 1995.
Brennan's son, 27-year-old Matthew Brennan, was arrested on suspicion of interfering with officers. The dead man's brother, Stephen Brennan, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooting happened at 11:56 p.m. Saturday after Jones saw a car travel past him at a high rate of speed on Live Oak Avenue, said Jimmy Lee, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office. Jones followed the car for a short distance and realized that it had just crashed into another car on the 4000 block of Live Oak, Lee said.
As Jones approached James Brennan, he "attacked the officer without provocation," Lee said. The two began fighting, and during the struggle Brennan tried to take Jones' gun, Lee said. Jones responded by firing one shot, Lee said.
Jones was placed on routine paid administrative leave pending investigations by Oakley police, Contra Costa County sheriff's investigators and the district attorney's office.
The shooting is the third this year - and the second fatality - involving a Contra Costa sheriff's deputy or officer assigned to police a city that contracts with the sheriff.
In March, a sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a 25-year-old San Mateo man after the suspect brandished two knives during a confrontation behind a convenience store in El Sobrante.
In January, sheriff's Deputy Dale Hadley shot and killed Howard Moody Williams, 37, on the 5800 block of McBryde Avenue in unincorporated Richmond. Williams allegedly confronted Hadley with a hammer after the deputy interrupted a burglary in progress.

Weapon retention, weapon retention, weapon retention. Excellent job by the Officer in following rule # 1. Chalk another one up for the Good Guys. James Brennan sir, you faught the Law and the Law won. May you rot in Hell.

That title pisses me off, f'ing media. It should say Cop defends himself after being attacked.

I should clarify. That wasn't the actual title of the article. It was my attempt at replicating the way the Liberal Main Stream Media slants stories.

I'd hate to be in that officers position. Taking a life is a horrible day for any law enforcement person, but when the subject resorts to acts of deadly force, you have little choice. I hope the officer is okay though. Good job, he did what he knew to do.

I hope the officer gets the support he needs.
