Mankato Sorority Sister Dies After Getting Struck by Car
MANKATO -- A 22-year-old Eden Prairie girl has died after getting struck by a car early Sunday morning; another is seriously injured.
The two young women were attending a University of Minnesota-Mankato sorority semi-formal and were walking home after midnight. The accident occurred at 12:47 a.m., when a vehicle struck both of the girls.
According to police reports, one of the women was lying in the traffic lane and the other woman was assisting her when the collision occurred.
Both women were taken to the emergency room at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. The 22-year-old was pronounced dead, while the 21-year-old Loretto girl underwent surgery. The second girl reportedly broke her back and pelvis and currently is in stable condition. Their identities have not yet been released.
Police commander Dan Schisel said the area where they were hit, 3rd Avenue near Kingswood Drive, is an industrial area, far from residential streets. The area was not well-lit, there are few stop signs, and the speed limit is 40 miles per hour.
The vehicle that struck the two young women was driven by a 17-year-old Mankato resident. Police believe the driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol. The driver’s name has not been released.

Where's University of Minnesota-Mankato?! It's Minnesota State University-Mankato.
Either way, it's sad. Two MSU students dead in less than a month. I wonder what the hell they were doing on 3rd Ave though.Alpha Phi Sigma Alum - Alpha Delta Chapter

Bad things happen to Greeks who drink too much.
Our school tends to lose one student per year due to drinking and poor selection of transportation choices.
