Paramedic PO shoots then saves suspect
Paramedic shoots, then saves robber
A US paramedic ordered an armed robbery suspect to drop his gun, shot him several times when he refused - then saved his life.
It happened after the man led police on a chase after allegedly raiding a petrol station in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.
The paramedic, a military reservist who has served with US forces in Iraq, was one of several local law enforcement officers pursuing the suspect.
The chase ended when state troopers managed to knock the alleged robber's vehicle onto its side, reports the Flint Journal.
The paramedic, an expert marksman, ordered the suspect, to drop his gun. When he didn't, the paramedic fired several shots, critically wounding him.
"Our deputy did what he was trained to do, protect the public and save lives," said Sheriff Robert J Pickell. "I'm proud of him.
"He shot the guy and then had the presence of mind to go get his bag and save the guy's life."
Police did not release the name of the suspect, who was about 28. He underwent surgery at a nearby hospital"The statements and opinions contained in this communication do not necessarily reflect the official position of the Commission regarding these issues."

If you take the time to really sit and think about it, there are some messed up, illogical things that we do in this job.

His actions are what separates Americans from the heathens of the world.
Outstanding presence of mind in a dangerous situation. He should be commended by his employers.
