LoJack undoes scheme to fake SUV theft
SAN DIEGO – Sheriff's officials say an Oceanside woman who was behind on car payments faked that her 1999 GMC Yukon was stolen and hid it in a friend's backyard in Escondido, not realizing it was equipped with a LoJack system. After the woman filed a stolen vehicle report with the Oceanside police department and a claim with her insurance company, police activated the LoJack and traced the SUV's location, said sheriff's Capt. Don Crist. The woman had put license plates she found in her boyfriend's room on the car, Crist said.
On Monday, three deputies working patrol traced the vehicle to an Escondido yard. A resident at the house told authorities she was storing the SUV for a friend and she didn't know it was reported stolen.
Deputies notified the Yukon's owner they had recovered her vehicle and asked her to pick it up. She continued to claim it had been stolen from her apartment complex in Oceanside, Crist said.
Crist said she was arrested on suspicion of filing a false vehicle theft report with intent to deceive and falsely reporting a crime to a peace officer. She was given a citation to appear in court.

OnStar friggin OWNS lojack hard. We had an onstar rep on the line with our dispatcher telling us down to the BLOCK the location and direction of travel of the stolen car. Turn by turn directions to find them even after they eluded.
Frickin lojack is impossible to use in the city if the car is moving. The signal bounces off of the buildings or something because we'll have cars running around calling out directions that contradict eachother constantly.
