Unemployed military veteran who robbed 18 businesses still pursuing police career with agency that arrested him
This one is like something we'd see in our Ask-A-Cop section.
OAKLAND, Calif.—Oakland police say an unemployed U.S. Army veteran they arrested in connection with a string of armed robberies had recently applied to be an Oakland cop—and still says he wants to be one.
Investigators say that 24-year-old Jason Brooks admitted to 18 armed robberies of East Bay businesses since May.
Brooks told them he did the robberies because he needed money for food and rent.
Police say he recently submitted an application to become an Oakland police officer, but did not have a test date scheduled. They added that even after his arrest, he told officers he still would like to join the force.
